Halsey Visits Beats 1 For A Tell-All Conversation On Her Upcoming Album “Manic””

On Monday, September 16, Halsey visited Apple Music’s Beats 1 to discuss her latest single, “Graveyard” and the excitement for her upcoming album Manic. The song comes in anticipation of the album, which will be released on January 17.

The meeting with Apple Music’s Beats 1 host Zane Lowe revealed Manic can be seen as an accumulation of “angry dark music” but is also NOT an album about “angry dark music.”  She has used this single and “Nightmares” as a way of releasing all of the feelings she had during her past relationship and during the last year. Halsey said she won’t be including “Nightmare” in the Manic soundtrack. Why?

“I sat there to make this album and I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m going to make an angry album,’” she said. “And I wasn’t mad. It’s exciting. … I’m closing a chapter in this record that I feel very much like I needed to put the final word on, put the nail in the coffin, if you will. Graveyard, marry it.”

“Graveyard” acknowledges Halsey’s mistakes and it’s where she holds herself accountable for the past. She mentions falling in love and then finding a way to tell her fans she’s taking responsibility for the unsafe positions she found herself in. She also released a video of herself recreating the album’s cover art.

She said this about “Without Me” – “It’s about like loving someone to death, kind of. And then in other ways it’s actually pretty literal. There’s a lot of moments in the song that are pretty literal, which was kind of scary to write about. But you know me, I find the scary thing and I do it.”
