Brian Tell and the Lovemakers are starting off the year with new music for their fans. The latest single available as of today gives listeners a new enriching sound setting the mood for the rest of the year. We speak with them in this exclusive interview to discuss the single and EP.
Thanks for chatting today Brian Tell and the Lovemakers! You have a new single dropping today! Congrats. Did you write the song? If so, what was that experience like?
Thanks for having me! We are releasing Track #2 from our first EP. The song is called “I’m Gonna Hear You”. I originally had this idea to make a song that was so simple, it would keep the same pace throughout. Then I got together with my producer Ben Oastler and we worked out the structure a bit. It was all done pretty fast. I think the first time I played it with anyone was with my brother, so it definitely picked up some shape there as well. And he also ended up adding guitar in the studio.
Do you get nervous before you release new music or is it more of an excitement for you?
This is really exciting since it’s more of a solo project. With the pandemic, I wasn’t able to play with my band mates in American Fever, so this kept me busy. I’m looking looking forward to how people respond.
Was there anyone or anything in particular that pushed you to pursue music as a band?
I would say it was New York primarily. Just living here and being inspired. There is so much live music and energy, so I just started writing one day.
But the first time I really discovered The Who – that was the biggest moment, that pushed me to become a performer.
How did you decide to make this your next release?
Well, I was playing in American Fever, but I had some ideas I wanted to try out without as much influence from other people. I wanted to speed up the recording process a bit, so I got some people into the studio and we recorded. It was more of an experiment, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
2020 was a crazy year for everyone. What are you most looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to jamming with other people again and seeing live music. There isn’t really anything like either of those experiences, and I definitely took it for granted. But overall, just hoping everything can go back to normal and people can stay safe in the meantime.
Tell us where we can find you online and get our hands on your new music?
We should be available in every major outlet, but definitely Spotify and Apple Music. For now, we only have Instagram up, but please follow us @briantellandthelovemakers
