Canadian musician Maddisun joins us to speak about her recently released debut album Self Reflections and musical journey in the industry. The impressive artist is just getting started and confidently leaving her mark.
Hi Maddisun!Thank you for being here today!
Please share more about your beginnings in the music industry and where you’re currently located!
Thank you for interviewing me! I am currently located in Cranbrook, BC. Canada! My music days started very early. When I was just a child my parents put me in piano and vocal lessons, I was always singing and dancing. In high school, I went to a special music school and got to travel to Europe with my vocal jazz choir! Since then I have been steadily releasing music on Bandcamp. In 2017, I created the moniker “Maddisun” based on my first name, Maddison. I started writing and releasing music on Spotify… then I began applying for grants, and now I am in the midst of my career with my debut album released! Always growing.
What have been some of your favorite fan stories thus far?
I have a number one fan in my town, he comes to all my shows and events. My favourite story was when I was coming out of the theatre from practice, and he was waiting outside because he saw I got some new merch. I actually had it in my car with me and he changed into it right there on the street. Haha, love it. See him wearing the merch around town all the time 🙂
How do you balance your life as an artist with a normal life?
Artist life usually tends to morph into normal life as time goes on…. but, I make sure to spend lots of time with my family and friends, and making sure to distance myself from my cell phone and social media when I am with them. Taking breaks from social media is important because it can be overwhelming.
If you could share the stage with any artist, who would it be and why?
Maggie Rogers!!!!! She is soooo real, and we would have the best dance party and most angelic harmonies ever!!!
What have been your greatest achievements as an artist so far?
Definitely receiving my Creative BC grant to record my debut album “Self Reflections” and then completing and releasing that album mid-pandemic. Feels pretty accomplishing. <3
