Country singer Paige Rutledge revels in the authenticity of the lyrics and sound found within the genre that has captured her desire to tell her stories through music. Today we discuss her successful journey in the music industry as she releases new music this year!
What inspires your music?
I try to write about real life experiences I have had, or people around me have had. I value the authenticity and realness in music, and try to always write and release content that is true to me but others can also relate to with their experiences. I’m also inspired by stories that I have heard, or by experiences from those around me have gone through.
How did you start your recording career?
It was actually through my first guitar teacher. He was in a band that was working with an independent label and he introduced me to his producer, Michael Sarracini, who I then began working with. It ended up being such a small world, because Michael knew my dad from his hockey days. I have been working with him for the past 6 years and he is someone who has really believed in me from the start and understands my visions when it comes to recording and music.
What is your genre of music?
I’m definitely a country girl, but I know that I pull some pop influences into my music. More recently, I’ve really been drawing on late 90s, early 2000 Shania Twain vibes.
Who are your influences?
Being a Canadian girl, Shania Twain will always be one of my biggest influences. It is so inspiring to see how she came from a small town in Ontario, and has made such an impact on country music. I draw from Shania’s sound when it comes to making my own music. From a songwriting perspective, I’ve always been really influenced by Taylor Swift. She has such a special way with lyrics and telling stories.
How do you define success?
I think success can be measured in so many different ways. I remember being little and my parents always telling me that if I work hard, something rewarding will come out of that and I truly live and work towards that goal. I really value hard work, and how hard work pays off. I also try to take every opportunity I have as a “success” and a learning opportunity so the next time I can be more successful in whatever it is that I am doing.
What can we expect from you in 2020?
I got two new singles that I am planning to release in 2020, one at the end of the summer and then another one early in the Fall. The goal is to get some more music out there right now with being limited to live shows. I have spent so much time over these past few months writing music that I am really looking forward to getting some new music out there for listeners.
